Trauma refers to any experience that threatens your physical or emotional safety. A traumatic event can leave you feeling scared, angry, and alone, and may cause bodily injury, emotional distress, or both. Most people who experience trauma endure negative thoughts and feelings, such as grief, anger, or fear, for some time after the event occurs. Some people may also experience additional symptoms, such as anxiety, depression, irritability, recurring dreams or flashbacks, headaches, nausea, breathing difficulties, etc. Most of the time, these symptoms resolve within a few weeks as you mentally process the experience. If however the symptoms do not resolve on their own, our therapists are trained in Trauma Treatment modalities, such as Trauma-Focused CBT, EMDR, Somatic Experiencing, etc.
